Chaminade vs St. Anthony’s Round 2

Posted On: Thursday, May 09, 2013

Even with all of the talent of Long Island lacrosse, the AAA state championship title has been owned by two teams for the past eight years:  Chaminade and St. Anthony’s.  Chaminade won the title from 2005 to 2008 and St. Anthony’s followed with the four championships since then.

With both teams coming from the same league, the Catholic High School Athletic Association, a huge rivalry lies between them.  Last year, Chaminade claimed the two regular season games, but St. Anthony’s overcame them in the championship match.  In their first meeting this season, Chaminade won with a big 10-6 victory.

This afternoon, Chaminade travels to St. Anthony’s in the next encounter between the two Long Island powerhouses.  Spectators will certainly be in for yet another well battled match.  The two teams have had strong seasons and are both on win streaks.

After their loss to Chaminade earlier, St. Anthony’s responded with five consecutive wins, bringing their record to 9-2.  During this span, the Friars scored 49 goals and only allowed 27, creating a +22 goal difference.

Chaminade’s victory over St. Anthony’s marked their fifth win in their first five games.  After winning four more games, Chaminade finally lost to Yorktown.  Since that loss, Chaminade posted three consecutive wins to enter today’s game.

With both teams on top form, the two will be looking to come out of this match up as the victor.  They will be using their win streaks to carry their momentum into the game.

Win or lose, both teams will be looking to maintain their dominance in the AAA state championship at the end of May.  Though this game can provide an indication of the stronger team, St. Anthony’s and Chaminade have already proved that they will both be strong contenders for the state championship.

Make sure you catch the action tonight at St. Anthony’s.  Check back tomorrow for more results.
